ASTM S103C Non-Mercury Thermometer, 148 to 202C, NIST Calibration
These liquid-in-glass thermometers have physical and performance characteristics identical to ASTM thermometers for their referenced applications, but have not yet been reviewed and accepted by ASTM for these purposes. They use a safe blue indicating liquid that is biodegradable, nontoxic, and nonhazardous. Dark blue color is easily read against the white-backed stem.
Comes with a NIST Traceable Certificate of Calibration. The NIST Traceable Certificate of Calibration is a five-point calibration certificate from an ISO/IEC accredited laboratory. This accreditation is your assurance that the calibration is performed in a qualified, controlled lab. The calibration on the glass thermometer is performed using direct comparison in a high-stability liquid bath with a Precision Reference Thermometer (PRT) and Standard Platinum Resistance Thermometer (SPRT) and displays. The thermometer is also inspected for cracks and liquid-column separations before testing. Measurements are performed at 5 temperature points.

The ASTM S103C Non-Mercury Thermometer is a reliable and safe option for measuring temperatures within the range of 148 to 202 degrees Celsius. This thermometer is designed to have the same physical and performance characteristics as ASTM thermometers for their referenced applications. However, it is important to note that this specific model has not yet been reviewed and accepted by ASTM for these purposes.
One of the key features of this thermometer is its use of a safe blue indicating liquid. This liquid is biodegradable, nontoxic, and nonhazardous, ensuring that it can be safely used in various settings. The dark blue color of the indicating liquid also makes it easy to read against the white-backed stem, providing clear and accurate temperature measurements.
To further ensure accuracy, each ASTM S103C Non-Mercury Thermometer comes with a NIST Traceable Certificate of Calibration. This certification guarantees that the calibration of the thermometer has been performed in a qualified and controlled laboratory. The calibration process involves using a Precision Reference Thermometer (PRT) and Standard Platinum Resistance Thermometer (SPRT) to compare and verify the accuracy of the thermometer's measurements at five temperature points. Additionally, the thermometer is thoroughly inspected for cracks and liquid-column separations before testing to ensure its reliability.
Measuring 16 inches in length with an immersion depth of 3.9 inches, this thermometer is suitable for applications such as solvents distillation. Its division of 0.2 degrees allows for precise temperature readings. The thermometer also comes with a Material Safety Data Sheet for reference.
To store the Non-Mercury Thermometer and prevent fluid column separation, it should always be stored vertically using a dedicated storage rack. For additional protection and thermal stabilization in ovens or other exposed environments, a Thermometer Well is recommended.
Overall, the ASTM S103C Non-Mercury Thermometer offers reliable and safe temperature measurements within a specific temperature range. With its NIST Traceable Certificate of Calibration, users can have confidence in the accuracy and performance of this thermometer. Whether in laboratories, industrial settings, or other applications, this thermometer is a dependable tool for measuring temperatures.
