Compressometer/Extensometer, Digital Dial Indicator, 4x8in

Compressometer/Extensometers are similar to the Compressometer in that they measure average deformation and strain of concrete cylinders during compression testing for determination of modulus of elasticity. In addition, a third center yoke attaches to the specimen to measure horizontal extension. This allows a combined determination of the modulus of elasticity and Poisson’s ratio. A second mechanical dial or digital indicator between yoke segments measures the transverse deformation simultaneously. Mechanical dial indicators measure specimen deformation. Models for 4in (102mm) or 6in (152mm) concrete cylinders are available. Yokes are made of lightweight aluminum, the other parts are cadmium-plated steel.

Features:

  • Third yoke measures horizontal extension
  • Dual mechanical dial indicators or digital indicators
  • Meets ASTM C469/469M requirements
  • Models for 4in (102mm) or 6in (152mm) concrete cylinders
Meets Standards:
ASTM C469/469M

Compressometer and extensometer are two essential instruments used in concrete cylinder compressive strength tests. These devices play a crucial role in accurately measuring the mechanical properties of concrete specimens, allowing engineers and researchers to assess the quality and durability of concrete structures.

A compressometer is a precision instrument used to measure the axial deformation or strain of a concrete cylinder during a compressive strength test. It consists of two hardened steel plates with attached dial gauges. The compressometer is carefully positioned on the concrete specimen, and as the load is applied, the movement of the plates is measured, providing valuable data on the strain experienced by the concrete.

On the other hand, an extensometer is used to measure the deformation or strain of the concrete specimen perpendicular to the applied load. It typically consists of two arms equipped with linear variable differential transformers (LVDTs) that are attached to the concrete surface. As the load is applied, the extensometer measures the change in length or extension of the specimen accurately.

By using compressometers and extensometers simultaneously during concrete cylinder compressive strength tests, engineers can obtain a comprehensive understanding of the behavior of concrete under load. These instruments help in determining the stress-strain relationship of the material, elastic modulus, Poisson's ratio, and other important mechanical properties.

The data collected from compressometers and extensometers can be used to evaluate the quality of concrete mixtures, monitor the performance of concrete structures over time, and guide the design of new construction projects. It enables engineers to make informed decisions regarding material selection, reinforcement design, and structural safety.

Compressometers and extensometers are vital tools in concrete cylinder compressive strength tests, providing precise measurements of strain and deformation. Their usage contributes to the advancement of concrete technology and ensures the durability and reliability of concrete structures.

The Compressometer/Extensometer, Digital Dial Indicator, 4x8in is an essential tool used in concrete cylinder compressive strength tests. It accurately measures the deformation and strain of concrete specimens, providing valuable data on their mechanical properties and performance.

With a third center yoke to measure horizontal extension, this compressometer/extensometer allows for a combined determination of the modulus of elasticity and Poisson’s ratio. It also features dual mechanical dial indicators or digital indicators to measure transverse deformation simultaneously. These indicators are designed to meet the ASTM C469/469M requirements.

The Compressometer/Extensometer is available in models suitable for 4in (102mm) or 6in (152mm) concrete cylinders. The yokes are made of lightweight aluminum, while the other parts are cadmium-plated steel, ensuring durability and longevity.

By using this instrument in conjunction with compressive strength tests, engineers and researchers can accurately assess the quality and durability of concrete structures. The data collected from the compressometer/extensometer helps determine the stress-strain relationship, elastic modulus, and Poisson's ratio of the concrete, among other important mechanical properties.

These measurements are instrumental in evaluating the performance of concrete mixtures, monitoring the behavior of concrete structures over time, and guiding the design of new construction projects. The compressometer/extensometer enables engineers to make informed decisions regarding material selection, reinforcement design, and structural safety.

Overall, the Compressometer/Extensometer, Digital Dial Indicator, 4x8in is a vital tool for anyone involved in concrete technology and construction. Its accurate measurements of strain and deformation contribute to the advancement of concrete technology and guarantee the durability and reliability of concrete structures.
