Portable Turbidity Meter Kit

Portable Turbidity Meter is an easy-to-use handheld instrument that quickly determines the number of suspended particles in water by accurately measuring turbidity by the intensity of reflected light. Values are proportional to the number of suspended particles in the sample.

The Portable Turbidity Meter meets EPA specifications for testing drinking water and is useful for measuring the clarity of aqueous solutions in general, such as low-level drinking water, mid-range industrial, and high-range environmental applications. A tube-positioning ring limits tube variability for optimal sensitivity and accurate results.

How Does This Product Work?

Different modes allow for testing with different units of measure: Nephelometric Turbidity Units (NTU), Formazin Nephelometric Units (FNU), and Formazin Attenuation Units (FAU). Additional units of measure are ASBC (American Society of Brewing Chemists) and EBC (European Brewery Convention).

NTU and FNU measures scattered light from the sample at a 90-degree angle from the incident light. NTU is most often used when referencing the USEPA Method 180.1 or Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater, and FNU is often used when referencing the ISO 7027 (European) turbidity method. FAU measures the decrease in transmitted light through the sample at 180 degrees to the incident light and is not considered a valid turbidity measurement by most regulatory agencies.

Nephelometric mode measures 0–40 NTU/FNU, ratiometric mode 40–1,000 NTRU/FNRU and 1,000–2,000 AU. Meter readings include a range of 0–100 NTU and 0–2,000 AU. Accuracy is ±0.05 NTU from 0–2.5 NTU and ±2% from 2.5–100 NTU. Resolution is 0.01 to 1.0 NTU, dependent upon range.

Power is provided by a built-in 3.7V Lithium-ion battery, rechargeable via USB cable or wall adapter. Optional 12VDC Car Charger is sold separately. The Kit contains all the components needed to measure and monitor turbidity in adherence to USEPA 180.1.
