Vitrobond Ingot Capping Compound (50LB Bag)

Vitrobond Ingot Capping Compound for concrete compressive strength testing is a solution that’s easy to store and handle. This sulfur-based dark gray compound is carbon-filled and melts and pours smoothly for consistent results.

Compressive strength exceeds 5,000psi (34.4kPa) at two hours and increases to 7,000psi (48.3kPa) at seven days. Ingots come in 50lb (23kg) cartons, each with ten 5lb ingots. Pieces break easily for melting to a pouring temperature of 280°–300°F (138°–140°C).

Physical strength ratings are 600psi tensile strength and 1,300psi modulus of rupture by ASTM C307 methods. The compound must not be heated above 320°F (160°C). Using excessive-release oil may affect cap strength. Price varies by order quantity.

Each bag weighs 50lb (22.68kg); order 5 bags of Vitrobond Ingot Capping Compound for the value price option.

The use of capping compound in the process of bonded concrete cylinders for concrete compression testing is a critical step that ensures accurate and reliable test results. Capping compounds are specially formulated materials applied to the ends of cylindrical concrete specimens to create a smooth and uniform surface for load distribution during testing.

Capping compounds are typically high-strength materials such as sulfur-based compounds or epoxy resins. They are mixed and prepared according to specific guidelines and standards to achieve the desired consistency and properties. The capping compound is then carefully applied to the ends of the concrete cylinders.

The primary purpose of capping compounds is to provide a consistent and even surface for load transfer during compression testing. By capping the specimens, irregularities or imperfections on the ends of the concrete cylinders, such as laitance or surface roughness, are eliminated. This ensures that the load applied during testing is uniformly distributed across the specimen's cross-sectional area, allowing for accurate determination of its compressive strength.

Capping compounds also help in minimizing the potential influence of end effects on the test results. They reduce the risk of localized stress concentrations or failure modes at the specimen ends, which can affect the measured compressive strength. The use of capping compounds provides a more representative and reliable assessment of the concrete's overall strength and performance.

Moreover, capping compounds offer a protective layer that helps preserve the integrity of the concrete specimens during handling and testing. They prevent moisture ingress and minimize the risk of damage to the ends, ensuring the specimens remain in the desired condition for accurate and repeatable testing.

In conclusion, the use of capping compounds in the process of bonded concrete cylinders for compression testing is crucial for achieving reliable and accurate results. These compounds create a smooth and uniform surface, minimize end effects, and provide protection to the specimens, allowing for a thorough assessment of the concrete's compressive strength and mechanical properties.
