This measurement is crucial for grading asphalt according to viscosity, ensuring it meets industry standards for paving and roofing applications. The Size 50 model is specifically calibrated for a viscosity range of 180 to 3,200 poise.

How it Works: This capillary-style viscometer operates by measuring the time it takes for a fixed volume of liquid to be drawn up through the fine capillary tube under a controlled vacuum. The test requires a minimum sample of 3mL. The measured elapsed time (in seconds) is then multiplied by the viscometer's unique calibration constant to calculate the absolute viscosity in poise (P). Each viscometer is meticulously manufactured to meet the rigorous standards of AASHTO T 202 and ASTM D2171/2171M, ensuring reliable and repeatable results.

For accurate testing, the viscometer must be submerged in a constant temperature water bath with a minimum depth of 7in (180mm) to maintain the specified temperature of 140°F (60°C). A 2in (51mm) Viscometer Neoprene Holder is required to securely hold the viscometer in a perfectly vertical position within the bath. This holder and a Constant Temperature Viscosity Bath are essential accessories and are available for separate purchase.
