How It Works
The rheometer operates as a precision torque meter driven at specific rotational speeds. A calibrated beryllium-copper spring connects the drive mechanism to a rotating cone, measuring resistance caused by the sample fluid between the cone and a stationary flat plate. This resistance generates torque, which corresponds to the fluid's shear stress. Viscosity readings, measured in centipoise (mPa·s), can be obtained directly from pre-calculated charts or calculated using the cone’s geometry, rotation rate, and torque.
The instrument’s setup is user-friendly, requiring no external gauges. The sample cup, which holds 0.5 to 2.0 mL of fluid, is easy to remove, fill, and remount without affecting calibration. It features a jacketed design with tube fittings for connection to a temperature-controlled circulating bath, ensuring precise thermal regulation. The system offers an accuracy of ±1.0% of the full-scale range and reproducibility of ±0.2%. Its working temperature range spans from 0°C to 100°C.
The DVNext Rheometer comes with a calibrated cone spindle for use with its sample cup, though additional spindles can be purchased and calibrated separately for added flexibility.
