• Negative reservoir: Filled with a 3% sodium chloride (NaCl) solution.
• Positive reservoir: Filled with a 0.3N sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution.

A 60V DC electrical potential is applied across the specimen for six hours. The total charge passed (measured in Coulombs) correlates with the concrete's permeability: the higher the charge, the more permeable the concrete. This test provides a quick and accurate way to evaluate concrete for its resistance to chloride penetration—critical for long-term durability in structures exposed to harsh environments.
